We believe that family relationships play a vital role in the recovery process. Palmetto’s Continuous Family Counseling Program is committed to enhancing and strengthening family relationships for the addicted individual as well as for family members.
Help is available for all families suffering the pain of addiction, even those who are unable to remain together. For those families who choose dissolution, both the addicted patient and the family members are guided through the inevitable grieving process associated with the loss of the family. In all situations, we work to increase personal insight and situational understanding for both the addicted patient and family
members, and emphasize empowerment. With these tools, families are able to cooperatively resolve present problems and address future issues.

Program goals are accomplished in several ways:

* Contact with the family within the first 48 hours to discuss therapy plan and goals
* Customized Treatment Plan based on individual needs created by the entire treatment team
* Regularly scheduled Family Therapy every 7-14 days
* Mandatory participation in the Continuous Family Counseling Program to meet criteria for phase advancement
* Teleconferences / Video web-based conferences with the family
* Face-to-Face Family Therapy Weekends
* Confidential Family Data Questionnaire>
* Access to Continuous Family Counseling Program Director via email, phone, and personal visits

We believe this new program will help the patient’s family in the following ways:

* Help family members understand the disease of addiction, and align with and endorse the treatment team goals
* Reduce confusion and frustration brought on by the addicted patient’s behaviors
* Empower the family to comprehend how to support the patient during the recovery process and for the rest of their lives
* Reduce premature departures from treatment for reasons other than therapeutic discharge
* Better prepare families to participate in Family Therapy during our family weekends
